Pride of Ownership

A major, contentious issue with aid donations is the lack of ownership rights for the recipient. When something is given freely, its true value is often lost to the ethereal nature of its appearance.

This would explain why recipients of government-subsidized houses often allow them to fall into disrepair, "mental rental" where there is no pride of ownership. The solution would be to have the recipient involved in the creation and purchasing of his house, in this case.

However, in public and merit goods, where there is no necessity for private ownership, there is no necessity for pride. Therefore, aid should voraciously build the public realm, and only very considerately build the private realm. A road donated is a road used, is a road forward.
